Dying to Know Day 2025
I'm continually inspired by the labour of the arts in community and increasing death literacy and this year's Dying to Know Day event was the icing on the cake. Me and Kitchen Table Conversations crew (Stephanie Tonkin and Jude Venn) brought performing artists and academics Leah Cotterell and Narelle McCoy to Eudlo to share their work in this space: the concert, Confessions of a Funeral Singer; and a workshop on Death and Singing.
We laughed and cried our way through a warm-hearted celebration of the glorious hodgepodge that is funeral music in Australia today in the morning, shared a potluck lunch, then brought our hearts and voices to a deep dive into ritual singing and the power of music to evoke emotion in the afternoon.
Huge thanks to everyone who came to the concert and workshop for this year's Dying to Know Day; to Leah Cotterell, Narelle McCoy and their crew of skilled musicians; and to the organisations that made this event possible: Dying to Know Day, Cittamani Hospice Service, and Eudlo Hall & Grounds Association!
