I got a grant!

I'm thrilled to have been awarded a grant to bring Somewhere in the Light to the Sunshine Coast in November this year. The article Coats, mentors and music in the funding spotlight announces all the wonderful artists funded by the Sunshine Coast Council and the focus for this particular funding round. This is my third successful grant application and I'm slowly beginning to understand how funding works at a government and local council level and what it takes to make creative projects happen in the world. A money-making venture this is not but if I can write well enough and demonstrate a measurable impact in my community, there is money out there so making art doesn't cost anything other than time (which is a huge gift because I'm probably going to do it anyway even if it doesn't pay).

This grant will help me take my work to the next level by being able to pay for professional documentation by a photographer and videographer and a live sound recording of the show. I also get to collaborate with an amazing cellist, Louise King who has vast experience in large-scale productions, music-driven community events, promotions, partnerships, achieving funding for the arts, and collaborations in dance and theatre. Feeling blessed and excited right now...
