IAS371: Charcoal
Working with charcoal was interesting in that it kept wanting to become something - maybe because of my familiarity of working with it?) Before my eyes, this amorphous blobby thing I was drawing would suddenly turn into a potato... or a rope... buttons or a dinner plate... or something else that reminded me of something. When that happened, I found I lost interest in it. It got boring. Things started getting more interesting when I took my attention to circles. It was like I could focus on the physicality of the medium without being aware that it was "thing" I was working on. Very timeless in moments. I'm finding this way of working, of committing to being in the unknown is very peaceful.
