Gates of Grief (Untitled) is comprised of five large monochromatic abstract minimalist drawings. Untouchable, contained and held apart from the world by glass, edges raw and torn with colour and movement removed, there is stillness: time, thought and the everyday impulse to progress, paused. There’s nothing to know, only the fragility of paper, solid and flat geometric shapes with blurred outlines suspended before grounds of vertical and horizontal pencil line. Like the depth of our losses and the traces they leave behind, the fine lines aren’t visible from a distance and can only be seen up close.
